About

We spent years navigating city skylines and the blueprints of monumental buildings. As architects, we were trained to think about how form meets function at grand scale. At some point we turned that lens inward — toward the rooms people actually live in.

We traded steel beams for solid wood. The discipline stayed the same: we translate complex geometries into producible systems. Every piece we sell is a small study in structure — modeled parametrically, carved by an industrial robot, finished by a human hand.

The atelier

Our workshop in Kayseri, Türkiye is built around a KUKA industrial robot — a machine more common in car factories than in furniture studios. We use it for robotic wood machining: it follows organic contours with sub-millimeter accuracy, cutting forms that would take weeks by hand, or would simply not be possible.

The robot is only half the story. Every surface it cuts is then sanded, oiled and waxed by hand. The machine gives us precision; hands give the wood its warmth back.

HDS Decoration is the sister of HDS Works, our digital fabrication studio, which produces architectural decoration, molds and furniture components for designers and brands. Same machines, same standards — scaled to your living room.

How a piece is made

Prototype. Every project is born in the digital realm first — 3D modeling, CAM preparation and a material strategy for the block we will cut.

Programming. Robot simulation and motion programming. Every cut, every angle, to the millimeter.

Production. Robotic machining, then hand finishing — sanding, oiling, waxing — and careful packing for the road.

The team

İsmail Özalp — architect and digital fabrication specialist. İsmail worked on large-scale architectural projects in Türkiye and gained international experience at a Porto-based architecture office, then specialized in parametric modeling and 3D digital production. HDS is where that training meets the woodshop.

Buse Akay — designer.

Beyond the shop

The pieces in this shop come out of a working fabrication studio. Through HDS Works we also take on commissions that never reach a product page:

  • Custom busts and sculpture carved from 3D scans
  • Wooden and industrial MDF molds for concrete, composites and serial production
  • Site-specific architectural decoration — wall panels, capitals, partitions
  • Furniture components for designers and brands, including carved legs and staircase parts
  • Project-based custom manufacturing, concept to delivery
  • Interior and exterior spaces built around fabricated elements

Lighting, furniture, sanitary ware, sculpture and wall art have all come off the same machines — the side table in your cart is made the way a building component is made.

Materials

We work mostly in Anatolian cedar and Nordic spruce, kiln-dried to 8–12% moisture before carving. Sinks are cut from plane wood and fully waterproofed for daily use; our copper pieces are hand-formed and tinned in the traditional way.

Wood is a living material. Grain, knots and the occasional hairline crack are not defects — they are the reason no two pieces are ever identical.
